In Prague LP Portrait Art

(Image via Andrew Baron)
I’m in Prague right now acting like the classic tourist. It’s been a great adventure so far. This is me on top of a mountain looking over the city.

This LP cover is from an record store Andrew and I came across today. I felt like rocking out as Beethoven and I did so to speak. As many of you know, I’m a fan and active member of LP portraits on flickr and often participate in the fun.

(I’m reposting this LP video so you can see for yourself if you have not already).

Next stop: London. Wish me luck in Europe!

I Was On CBC Radio Today

pop17_08_mar_18.jpg

Today I was on a panel with Merlin Mann and Terri Senft moderated by Nora Young on CBC’s radio show, Spark. I got started in media when I produced a tech news show for KALX 90.7FM at UC Berkeley’s radio station. It’s been a while since I have been on the radio and I have to admit, I was a little rusty. I used to have the perfect radio voice that I would practice every time I went live on air, but this time I used my regular speaking voice that isn’t as soothing on the ears. I have to say I learned a lot about micro celebrities from two experienced people. Merlin is a micro celebrity and authority on tech and Terri was the one who coined the term micro celebrity. Clearly, I was in good company.

I was lucky enough to film in the studio! Check out the video, linked to in the picture above, if you would like to see that and some interviews where I ask ordinary people on the street the difference between niche and micro celebrity.

Update: listen to it here!

Digital Entertainment We Love

Who get’s more entertainment from traditional means like the TV or movies than on the Internet? I’d like to know because I entertain myself on my iphone and macbook pro. The video was filmed in the back seat of a taxi car on my way to film Pop17 at a conference.

I attended the Digital Hollywood Media Summit conference here in New York City yesterday and interviewed some leading industry professionals for Pop17. You may watch the video I made at Pop17 where I not only have the video available in flash, but also in wmv, mov, m4v, and 3gp. If you are reading this on RSS I promise you can watch the video where ever you are by going here.

FYI: I’m working on getting distributed on YouTube and iTunes at the moment.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback from this video so far. I’ll be updating your responses in this blog post so why don’t you tell me your response in the comments.

This is the types of Entertainment We Love:

Hi Sarah,

I would like to say that I 500% agree with you. Since I have a wifi connection and my macbook, I did not watch tv anymore. Internet is incredible universe, with so much information. I am a information addict but my job cannot offer me so much time to be online 25 hours a day…

I think that Internet change our life and is open an new universe and it is just the beginning. I am exciting to discover the internet future, great opportunities.

Continue pop17, great and sometimes I post your video on my French blog.

Arno

Thanks for embedding my videos on your French blog! I use the 3g network to surf mobile because EDGE on my iphone is so slow. Sometimes I’ll browse on EDGE, but mostly just to comment on Pop17 and other blogs.

Hi Sarah,

I’m not sure I really love the Internet but I do spend a LOT of time on it.
I’m curious why you want to be emailed by random viewers like me. I’ve
noticed before that you asked for email and it intrigues me. Do people
respond by email at all?

cheers,
David

_________

Random viewers like you are the ones that make everything I do online worth it. It’s a lot of work to write back to emails, but I find it a great way to interact and participate with my audience. Thanks for watching!!!!

Hi Sarah its MacBookGuy91 here yes i love the internet i spend most
of my time on the internet. I do watch a few movies and when i go to
bed i have the tv on all night but i am a sleep so i guess my physical
mind is not watching it but like my body or something is watching it
because someone turns off that tv and i wake up a bit later. But to
answer your question yes i love the internet theirs so much to do i
learn so much and there lots of stuff on it but its not all good it
depends what you do. Well the most use from my macbook is the Internet,
but i still do other fun stuff on my computer. I am still planning on
getting a MacBook Air. Have a great day.

Office Party with Pop17

handtrace_cityscape

Microsoft had an awesome party last night and I went to cover it for Pop17! [Click here] to watch the video there. It was hard not to notice that there were a lot of models, but I didn’t see anyone famous like Steve Ballmer. It’s ok, I liked what I got because I did meet some TV producers, writers and actors because Microsoft is demonstrating Workspace with them and their projects at HBO.

The party was held to celebrate the new Office Live Workspace. It’s kinda like a wiki where people collaborate on their projects.

Sarah Perez breaks down the collaboration angle and describes how it’s even better than a wiki:

“In Google Docs, collaborators have the ability to work on files together, in-real time. Ten people may edit and/or view a document or presentation at any given time. Fifty people can edit a spreadsheet at the same time.

Although Office Live Workspace allows for collaboration, it’s not real-time, online collaboration. Instead, if one user is editing a file, another will be informed the file is “checked out.” When they finish editing and save their changes the document is checked back in for other users to access.”

Pop17 Launches

I’m proud to announce that today I have launched my show. It’s called Pop17 because I read a story on Digg that says 17 is the most popular number. I wanted to find something memorable so I took out the Snap and put in the 17. It’s a show people can go to who are looking to find out about micro-celebrities of the Internet. If you have any interest in the new phenomenon then check it out and engage in the conversation, in the comments, where we will explore the topic of internet fame in depth.

Today has been a big success. My video is on NewTeeVee and TechCrunch !

Not only did I have a nice response from the blogs, but I also had a fantastic response on Twitter. I really appreciate your feedback there and am trying to reply to everyone’s questions.

I’m not going to be blogging here anymore as I need to put all my blogging effort into the Pop17 blog. So you will have to go over there now!

College Humor TV on Joost

joost.pngLast night I went to the NewTeeVee event and hung out with some interesting people in the web video space. We met up at Burp Castle in East Village thanks to Jackson West’s recommendation (great spot btw). We talked to Kerry Vance from Joost who told me about their new partnership with College Humor TV. You can now get their comedy shows in Joost along with the rest of Joost’s high quality content. College Humor TV should get it’s own show on a major network like Comedy Central.
collegehumor.png
“We are excited to be partnering with Joost to launch the CollegeHumor channel because it gives us an opportunity to introduce our original videos to a new, savvy audience,” said Ricky Van Veen, Co-Founder and Editor-In-Chief of CollegeHumor. “Joost’s high quality, full screen platform is one of the few places where our high definition widescreen originals can look as good as they do on CollegeHumor.com.”

I’m not sure that Joost is going to be the big content network that rises up as number one. I do believe there will be one network that takes hold of this space to have the best network of premium content. I could be Joost or someone else. Only time will tell.
